Updates . . .

A couple posts ago, I asked about the relative merits of down vs. down alternative comforters. Some of you left comments, which were very much appreciated. Then, my friend Hanne graciously lent me one of each type so I could see which version I preferred.

I tried the "real" down comforter first. In addition to the realization that inserting a comforter into a comforter cover was a lot trickier than I'd imagined, I was kind of surprised to feel real feathers inside! I knew down came from feathers, but I guess I thought they removed the stuff from the stems, or whatever they're called.

Now I'm trying the down alternative comforter. The first night I thought it was too hot. But, it has been pretty warm outside, so I gave it a few more chances. The last two nights it's been perfect!

The real down version was comfortable too, but I was on "allergy alert" the whole time I used it and, considering my hypochondriac tendencies, I doubt I'd get past that. Besides, my eyes were sort of goopy the mornings I used that one.

So I'm going to get a down alternative comforter. Unfortunately, since I'm not a big "people fan" the prospect of me entering a store between Thanksgiving and I don't know, Valentine's Day, is extremely unappealing. Alas, I could still go tonight!

In other news, I've started putting up my outdoor Christmas decorations. Between lights that don't light, and trees that tip over in the merest hint of a breeze, this year has been a challenge. So much so, that I think the amount of swearing I've done putting up the decorations will far outweigh any Christian goodwill that the display could possibly inspire. Oh well. I live on a busy street and I'll be damned if my house will go undecorated!

See, there I go again. . .
