Keyless or clueless?

Okay, does this strike anyone else as odd? I found the following posted on a FreeCycle message board:

Date: Mon, 14 Nov 2005 02:19:48 -0000
From: ritz53523
Subject: WANTED - Keyfob for 97 Nissan Pathfinder
My remote is broken for the lock/unlock feature of the keyfob. If you
happen to have one lying around you aren't using please pass it along.
Thanks in advance:)

Sooo, does ritz53523 think that ANY key fob from a 97 Pathfinder will unlock all other 97 Pathfinders? If so, ritz53523 must really think that Pathfinder owners are a trustworthy lot!

ritz53523 says: "It warms my heart to know that anyone with a 97 Pathfinder COULD unlock my doors and steal something, but no one ever does!"

I've tried to give ritz53523 the benefit of the doubt. I mean really, for all I know, reprogramming a Pathfinder key fob is an easy and inexpensive process. Seems pretty unlikely though. Besides, if ritz53523 was planning to have work done on someone else's key fob, why wouldn't he/she just fix the broken fob they already had?

Furthermore, why would someone else willingly give away a means of entry to a vehicle that they no doubt own? It makes no sense.

Nope, I'd have to guess that the request is either a joke, a misguided attempt at car theft, or most likely of all, that ritz53523 is a moron.

Since I don't have a 97 Pathfinder, or key fob for said vehicle model, I guess I'll never know.
