So mission "Christmas Decoration" continues. This year those of you passing by may note that I'm using a larger wreath on the front of my house. A full 48 inches to be exact!
You see, I hang a lighted (lit?) pine garland/wreath configuration on my house each year. I usually just keep the garland strands and lights attached to the wreath when I take it down, and store it all in one piece. This year, a bunch of the lights were out, so I figured I take the whole mess apart and add a larger wreath. It looks pretty good.
Of course the acquisition of the larger wreath left me with a spare. Well two spare wreaths really, because when I was at the store, I bought a 48" and 36" wreath, because I wasn't sure which size would look better. Turns out the 36" wreath was in the wrong bin, because it's actually a 30" wreath which is the exact size of the one I had been using. Instead of returning the new new wreath, I figured I'd make use of both of the 30 inchers. I hung one in the living room window, and the other one in the kitchen window.
Initially I thought this plan would save time and a little bit of money. I was going to save a trip across town to make the return afterall, and the wreath was fairly inexpensive compared to the price of gas. Good plan in theory. But the wreaths are getting more elaborate. Initially, I made ribbons AND bows for them and suspended each one from a matching length of material. I thought they looked pretty nice -- until I went to the dentist.
The decorations at my dentist's office are unbelievable! A visual symphony of pine and crazy jeweled fruit. I'm not sure what pears and oranges have to do with pine needles, or the birth of the Lord and Savior, but for whatever reason, the pine/fruit combination looks great! I realize these decorations were probably done by a professional, and obviously, the decorations in a dentist office will be seen by a lot more people than mine, but I couldn't help comparing my bare wreaths, to their Harry and David versions.
After my appointment, I drove past the store where I bought (and COULD have returned) the wreath, and headed to the craft store. I opted for gold and red berries instead of the larger, fruit-of-the-month club variety. I also picked up some lights. $26 and 45 minutes later, I left the craft store.
I guess I showed you who knows how to save time and money!
(sigh)

I am almost at the point where I would gladly pay someone to come in and do my Christmas decorations. First year in a new house, parents visiting, new boyfriend's family visiting...the pressure is more than anyone can handle!! How much will you charge me per hour, Donna? The added income will help you include some pears and oranges in your, by now, collection of wreaths. :)
Funny! You should go to Trimark Dental for some ideas.
