Good idea: paint the basement floor
Bad idea: do it on one of the hottest days of the year
What does the hot weather outside have to do with my painting inside? Well it's a matter of ventilation. I used a two-part epoxy coating (specially designed for basement floors mind you) which will be very durable when it dries. In the meantime, it's very stinky! To counteract the odor, I've had the backdoor open most of the day along with a fan blowing out one of the kitchen windows.
I prefer air conditioning, so this open window situation is sort of new to me. It's also sort of hot. Which brings me to the next...
Bad idea: paint the floor before realizing that two of the three fans you own are on the other side of the basement.
No worries though, according to the label, the paint I used will only take eight hours to dry and 24 hours to cure.
D'oh!
