Madison Postal Workers Attacked By Turkeys
Turkeys' Mating Season Runs Through Mid-May
MADISON, Wis. -- It's not rain, sleet or snow or even menacing dogs bothering postal carriers in one Madison neighborhood. It's wild turkeys.
The turkeys have been pecking at the mail carriers as they make their rounds. One even jumped into the open door of a mail truck and scratched the driver. Department of Natural Resources wildlife specialist Eric Lobner says the turkeys' behavior is clearly tied to the breeding season, which runs through mid-May.
Lobner said color has a role in turkey breeding. The color of the male's head during mating season changes from blue to white to red. Lobner said maybe that's why the turkeys are attracted to the red, white and blue postal trucks.

Great - now Bubba can wear his camouflage gear, hold his rifle, enjoy his cooler of Bud Light and never even have to get off the old couch that sits on his front porch all year round. Not a safe time to be a mailman in Wisconsin.
