My shoulders and neck have been bothering me lately, so I went for a massage Tuesday after work. I felt great Tuesday night. And Wednesday, I was at a PhotoShop seminar in Milwaukee and didn't give my shoulders a thought, so I assume everything was normal.
Yesterday, however the tide turned. Unfortunately, my neck wouldn't turn, not painlessly anyway. Somehow during the process of getting out of bed, taking a shower and brushing my teeth, my neck sort of froze up. I thought I might have pinched a nerve somehow, so I iced it all day and went for a couple drinks after work to take my mind off the pain.
I slept fine last night and my neck feels a little better today. But my shoulders are still sore and my back is really stiff and "hurty." I swear, I feel like I aged 25 years in the last two days -- Uggh!
Now my coworkers are telling me that the massage I had released toxins into my body, and that I probably didn't drink enough water to flush them out. Well, if by "not enough water" they mean "no water at all," well then, I guess I'm guilty as charged.
Now that I think of it, up until this morning my fluid consumption since the massage has consisted primarily of red wine, coffee (lots of coffee!) and light beer. No wait, when we were in Milwaukee my coworker and I had lunch at AppleBees, and I distinctly remember having a glass of water with my meal!
Hmm, I guess that probably wasn't enough.
So today I'm making up for lost time, or more to the point, lost fluids. By lunchtime I'd already had four glasses of water, and plan to continue on that schedule for the remainder of the day.
Hopefully all the water I'm drinking will relieve the pain in my shoulders, which if I recall correctly, was the reason I went for a massage in the first place.
Ahh yes, another $42 well spent.

Are you sure you that the pain isn't a result of a fall which was forgotton about? I could easily see that as being the case after one of these nights where a "couple of beers" were consumed. The word "couple" is such an ambiguous word when you really think about it:-) Regardless of what you did to yourself, I seriously hope you feel better soon! Please remember ma'am, the mixing of alcohol(especially mass quantities:-))and prescription medications can at times have disasterous consequences--one of which is, yes, you guessed it--short term memory loss......Just some food for thought.......

Toxins? Have you considered that your therapist didn't just rub you the wrong way, but actually beat the crap out of you? These people are trained and have powerful hands. You are a delicate flower, Donna. Your gentle petals were crushed and bruised.
Yeah, this person pounded you out like a flank steak right before it hits the fajita grill.
When are you going back for more?
Are you sure you didn't slam a car door in your shoulder (check with a plastic surgeon to make sure there's no scarring)? Just remembering past stories...ah, the memories.
No seriously; the water thing is true. You're supposed to drink at least one liter of water within a couple of hours of getting a message! A glass during lunch the following day really doesn't meet the requirement....sorry!
