Oh, say can you see

I usually wear contacts. But I have glasses that I wear on occasion.

I like my glasses just fine. But thought that it might be nice to have an extra pair that I could keep in my purse. You know, in case my contacts dried out, or I wanted to fly to Vegas at the last minute or something.

A girl has to be prepared you know.

At any rate, since my first pair of glasses cost over $400 (yikes!), I was hoping that I could get a second pair "on the cheap," so to speak.

Since I've see commercials touting "2 pairs for $99" and whatnot, I figured that even I should be able to get at least ONE pair for around $100. This coming from the person that ended up paying $49 for an oil change, from a place with a sign OUT FRONT advertising $19 oil changes.

Yeah, negotiation is not a strong point of mine.

Anyway, I shopped around and finally found a pair I liked. Of course, by the time they added up the extras (rust proofing or what-the-heck ever else), the total came to $200. Fine, whatever. I liked the style, so I told them to hook it up.

I picked up the glasses last week. They look really nice.

However, they don't appear to be the right prescription. I say this because I can't see out of them. Well, not as well as I see out of my other glasses, or my contacts anyway.

So, what conclusion can we draw from this experience? Well, it would appear that you can get a nifty pair of frames and lenses for around $200. But you'll want to spend that extra $200, if you actually want to see out of the glasses you're buying.

Makes you wonder what you'd end up with from one of those 2 for $99 deals . . .
