Today I decided to regrout the ceramic tile in my shower and replace the caulk around the bathtub. Early on, I was surprised at how quickly the bathroom went from being a refuge of relaxation and cleanliness to a construction site for which haz-mat gear, while not required by law, might be prudent.
In its current state, it's hard to believe that any degree of cleanliness will ever be achieved by stepping foot in the bathroom, tub or shower in the future. In fact, I briefly considered using the tile grout and caulk I bought to seal bathroom door, never to speak of the mess that lies within again.
I'm kidding of course. Well, sort of kidding.
However, the psychological disillusionment of my bathroom is an example of why, whenever possible, it's better to have home improvement projects done by someone else. Preferably while you're out of state, or at least in another city with your cell phone turned off.
It's like going to a hotel. It looks nice and clean, but in the long run, you're a LOT better off not knowing what went on in the room before you got there.
