A Mother's Day to Remember

My sister and her family were in Florida this past Mother's Day, which left me in charge of any celebratory event that was to take place to honor our mother. Kind of a scary prospect given that I've forgotten more birthdays and anniversaries in the past 10 years than I've remembered.

Yeah, oops.

Mother's Day is different though. Not different as in more special than a family member's birthday or anniversary, but definitely different in that there are television commercials and store displays advertising Mother's Day. If everyone was born or married, on or in close proximity to a recognized holiday, I'd have a much better chance of remembering.

I, for example, was born the DAY AFTER Halloween. My friend Dave was born the DAY BEFORE the Fourth of July. As for the rest of you, well, I don't know how anyone could be expected to remember a date as random as, say February 8th (my mom's birthday)... or is it the 16th? Well, you get my point.

I half think my sister planned her trip on purpose to prove that I would forget to appropriately acknowledge Mother's Day. Hah. I didn't forget! I arrived at my parent's house with a plant & plant stand (shown above as proof) and took my mom, dad and aunt out for lunch.

But seriously, how could I forget? I'm not an idiot. I wouldn't forget something as important or conspicuously advertised as Mother's Day. Of course, this message from a co-worker didn't hurt:

Hmm, now that I think of it, I should probably send her a list of birthdays.
