I'm becoming more and more frustrated with CNN.com. As you probably know, there are certain "articles" on the site that are only presented as video clips.
I don't really want to dink around with the video segments, because for some reason they take a long time to load and they play commercials first. And then I get an email, or someone comes into my office, or the phone rings, or people here start screaming at each other (that doesn't really happen -- very much).
But you get the idea, more often than not, I lose interest and end up closing my browser before the video clip is even available to play. Or, if I do stay "on task" long enough to watch the segment, it's kind of, well anticlimactic. Consisting mainly of boring interviews with people not directly involved in the event, or footage of the crime scene, indicated primarily by the presence of yellow, "crime scene" warning tape.
The problem is that some of the headlines are darn near irresistible! For example, today there is one headlined "Mom in coffin mix-up demands, 'I want my baby.'" Now seriously, what on earth could that be about?
There's also one headlined "Adult allows MySpace girl fight." Huh?
And finally, "Two detectives paid to find stem cells for dogs." Ahh, yeah.
Yesterday there was one about a chimp that broke into a car and bit a guy's hand off! It made me wonder if they had footage of the attack, because I would have definitely spent the extra time to see that!
But it was probably just an interview with someone that worked at the chimp sanctuary where the attack happened. Or worse yet, it might have been stock footage of chimps answering phones and screaming at each other.
