Can someone explain to me why the pet store I pass each day has New Chicken Soup posted on its sign?
Normally this combination of words wouldn't cause me much consternation.
Say on a menu -- no problem.
In an ad for a grocery store -- yep, makes sense.
On a can, or even a box -- sounds tasty!
But at a pet store? Hmmm. . .
Are they actually selling soup for chickens? Seems like a pretty limited market, and such tiny spoons!
Actually, I've never been in the place, so for all I know they may have a lunch counter for people in back. You know one of those combination stores? Like the tanning spa /video rental "business model" that's taken the world by storm. Pet store /lunch counter? Hey, why not!
If that's the case, I'm guessing that a seed "mishap" suddenly flooded the market with "fresh" poultry -- hence, New Chicken Soup. Other offerings? Hamster Hash, Rabbit Wraps and Teriyaki Turtle -- the secret ingredient is salmonella!
Of course the most logical explanation is that they're introducing a New Chicken Soup flavored pet food.
But still, even that doesn't make complete sense. The main flavoring in Chicken Soup being, well, chicken. I think the difference between Chicken flavored kibble and Chicken Soup flavored kibble would be somewhat subtle -- especially to a dog. I mean really, the primary difference between the two is the presence or absence of liquid, right? No liquid = no soup for you!
The only other thing I can think of is that they're talking about one of those inspirational books. Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul has no doubt been written, and probably contains passages like:
Be joyous in your appreciation of the everyday gifts your pet has to offer -- on the lawn, on the carpet, in your bed . . .
Yeah, I won't be reading that book anytime soon.
